IPA Announcements


1.         Study Opportunities with the International Police Association
 
1a)       Seminars at Gimborn – These are open to non-IPA members as well as IPA members and include topics such as The Police Profession;  Money and Crime; Immigration and Crime; Women Leadership and  Domestic Violence.  There’s some attractive offers on course fee reimbursements, contribution towards travel costs and free IPA membership.
 
1b)       A Scholarship worth almost £2,000
 
Each year, the IPA offers 10 Arthur Troop Scholarships (named after the Association’s Founder).

Each Scholarship consists of a bursary of not more than 3,000 Swiss Francs. The bursary is to be used towards expenses of attending a course/seminar at an educational establishment or the International Conference Centre, Gimborn. Applicants must have been a member of IPA for at least one year before applying and the scholarship must be taken between 1st January and 31st December following the  grant of the scholarship.    
 
1c)       The joint Masters programme in Criminology, Governance and Police Science
 
The German Masters programme in Criminology and Police Science was introduced in 2005 and is successfully run as a distance learning course with more than 200 applications and 60 graduates each year.    The 2 year programme, which is run in English, commences early 2011.

2.         IPA Section UK – Membership eligibility
 
In Section UK, the membership comprises of police officers, members of the Special Constabulary, Police Community Support Officers (PCSOs), Scenes of Crimes Officers (SOCOs), or equivalent terminology; Investigating Officers and Members of Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary. The Section has a unique mixture of police personnel who are still serving, retired, or in some instances, who have voluntarily resigned from the police service.  In the case of any person who resigned voluntarily and who can produce written proof that they previously served in the police services for 10 years or more, they may also apply to be a member.
