A senior police officer has challenged politicians to sort out the parades issue before someone is killed.

The police have blamed loyalists for Sunday's trouble at a nationalist parade in north Belfast.

The police have said that a gun attack one of their vehicles in west Belfast was an attempt to kill officers.

A 33-year-old man has been arrested for the attempted murder of police officers at Ardoyne in north Belfast on 12 July.

Those involved in violence in north Belfast will be brought before the courts in the coming weeks and months, the PSNI chief constable has said.
