Statement on Constable Stephen Carroll Murder

Statement on Constable Stephen Carroll Murder

The Police Federation for Northern Ireland has welcomed the Judge's guilty verdicts at the end of the Constable Stephen Carroll murder trial.

Federation Chairman Terry Spence says that it is important that terrorists should understand that they will be caught, that they will go through due process and will be convicted to serve appropriately lengthy prison sentences. "Over 212 unsolved police murders are still on our files, the most recent being of our young colleague Ronan Kerr. Today's convictions and the impending Easter commemorations are a timely reminder for officers to be on their guard on or off duty against murderous attacks by dissident republican paramilitaries. The help of the community in securing convictions is vital."
