Statement Re £40 Million Increase In Police Budget
The Chairman of the Police Federation for Northern Ireland, Irwin Montgomery, has welcomed the announcement that a further £40 million is being made available to the police budget.
He said: "The Federation has made the case to the Northern Ireland Office and the Policing Board that unless extra finance is made available to cover the huge costs of public disorder then ordinary, more routine policing which is valued by the public, will suffer. Those people who foment public disorder are responsible for the need to divert money into the police budget rather than other public services."
