Police Federation Meets Secretary Of State
The Police Federation today met the Secretary of State to discuss the terms for compulsory severance for the Full-Time Reserve.
The Secretary of State has asked, however, for more time to consider the representations of the Federation.
Mr Terry Spence, Federation Secretary, says that the Federation was both disappointed and frustrated that key issues remained outstanding and therefore prevented the release of details of the overall package.
"We are pressing the Secretary of State for urgent answers. Our members deserve an end to the present uncertainty, especially when the Chief Constable will announce his decision on their future on 9 September.
"I must also emphasise that although we have been obliged to negotiate compulsory severance terms, we have not conceded the case for their retention. The evidence remains irrefutable that these officers are essential for the provision of a credible policing service," said Mr Spence.
