PFNI Supports National Pay Campaign
Central Committee of the Police Federation for Northern Ireland which represents the 9,500 federated members of the PSNI today gave its full support to the resolutions adopted at the meeting of the UK federated police officers in London yesterday.
At its meeting this morning Central Committee passed a vote of no confidence in the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland and called upon him to resign from Office. The vote reflected the similar vote of no confidence passed on the Home Secretary and the demand for her resignation.
Central Committee is also to survey the membership to establish whether officers want to acquire the legal right of access to industrial action.
Terry Spence, Federation Chairman, says that the UK Federations are united in their sense of betrayal. "The existing negotiating machinery has been simply discarded and the decision of the Police Arbitration Tribunal set aside by the Home Secretary. This dispute is not only about the failure to implement the arbitration agreement but the need to have a system of pay and conditions which can command the trust of the police service.
"It is heartening that the other police representative bodies such as the Superintendents Association and ACPO as well as the Policing Board support our sense of grievance."
