P.F.N.I. Comment on Teacher Pay Award of 2.5%
Terry Spence, Chairman of the Police Federation for Northern Ireland commented:
"Obviously the Government spin machine has hit a bump and has gone out of sync. How can Ed Balls say this award is consistent with the C.P.I. inflation target of 2% when we were told any public sector pay award above 2% will fuel inflation? It is very apparent to me that it is the threat of industrial action which influenced this decision to pay in full the recommendation of their pay review body."
Stevie McCann commenting stated:
"This will only add fuel to the fire of anger and resentment police officers feel. It is apparent the Government do not value the work police officers perform. Perhaps if we had access to industrial rights our pay award this year would have been honoured on its due date. The P.F.N.I. call upon the Secretary of State again to implement the Police Arbitration Tribunal Recommendation in full and reverse the decision made."
