Member Services

(F/T 'R'/Regulars £8.23 P/T 'R' £2.68 per month)

The Benevolent Fund is the Force Charity which is administered by the Police Federation from the offices at Garnerville. It has a Management Committee of 7 elected Federation Representatives, 1 ACC, 1 Superintendent, 1 Welfare Officer, 1 Retired Officer, 1 P/T RUC'R' Officer and Officials of the Federation. It is currently chaired by A.C.C Urban Region.

This Committee has developed close links with Occupational Health and Welfare Services to assist the membership and the fund.

It is the Benevolent Fund Representative's task to complete and prepare applications to the Fund at its monthly meetings where grants and assistance are given to applicants from the Police 'Family' by the Committee.

The Fund provides for everyone in the Police 'Family' in need, that is the main criteria used. It follows that this covers all serving officers who have problems from illness through to intimidation and related matters. All police pensioners, widows and children are all in the family together with the disabled officer. As was stated earlier, everyone is included.

Now to what it actually provides for our family membership. Typical grants that are awarded regularly cover:-

  1. Widows - provision of washing machines, cookers etc

  2. Children - holidays and education assistance

  3. Disabled - provision of computers, wheelchairs etc.

  4. Intimidated Members -

    • Car loans of £2,000 to change

  5. 25 pence of membership fee is taken to contribute to the Police Dependants Trust who have donated in excess of ½ million pounds to our widows, children and disabled.

  6. We have recently purchased 15 modern apartments which are available for widows, dependants and pensioners. These are allocated for weekly breaks throughout the year and totally financed by the Benevolent Fund. Obviously, there is great demand for this facility and a criteria may have to be amended as time goes on. Arrangements are made via telepone on 028 9092 2230. You must ring them direct to book the break.

  7. Grants are made to local Voluntary Welfare Groups which hold monthly meetings for retired officers, widows and dependants. This includes holiday grants

  8. The Fund is there to help and can fulfil that role only when a case is highlighted and brought before them. It is in all our interests to look after our colleagues and bring forward an application, through the Benevolent Fund Representative, for assistance.
