Initial applications will not be funded by PFNI. PFNI will forward your claim to our appointed solicitor for attention, but any costs that may be incurred at this stage will be borne by the applicant.
Legal assistance by PFNI may be granted for appeals subject to the merits of the case. Medico-legal reports may be funded based on a case-by-case basis, but these costs will be recovered from any award the applicant will receive, if successful.
Medical reports
Some matters will rely on medico-legal reports to assist the application. Discretion may be granted by PFNI to cover the cost of the medical outlay. In such circumstances, the limit of discretion will amount to one report for physical injury and one report for psychological injury. There may be times when an addendum report is required and PFNI will likely fund this additional report.
PFNI will initially fund the costs of such reports to support the application however if the matter is successful, PFNI will seek to recover the cost of these reports from any award the applicant may receive.
PFNI will NOT cover medical outlay for
· Initial assessment
· Diagnostic tests
· Second opinion
· Reports from Occupational health consultant.
