PFNI Social Media Community Guidelines

We use our social media to share important updates, highlight the work of our officers, and engage with our policing family and wider community.

To ensure our social media pages remains respectful, safe, and constructive, we ask all visitors to follow these Community Guidelines.

Be Respectful

We encourage open discussion, but abusive, threatening, or insulting comments will not be tolerated.

This includes:

  • Personal attacks
  • Harassment or intimidation
  • Discriminatory or hateful language
  • Comments targeting protected characteristics or protected groups

We reserve the right to remove any content that breaches these standards.

Keep It Lawful

Please do not post anything that:

  • Breaks the law
  • Encourages illegal activity
  • Includes defamatory statements
  • Shares confidential, operational, or security‑sensitive information

For your safety, avoid sharing details that could identify individuals involved in incidents.

No Political or Campaigning Content

As a representative body for police officers, PFNI must remain politically neutral.

We therefore do not allow:

  • Party‑political comments
  • Electioneering
  • Lobbying or campaigning messages
  • Content designed to influence political opinion

General conversation about policing is welcome, but political debate will be removed.

Protect Officer Safety and Privacy

Do not post:

  • Names, photos, or information that may identify officers or their families without consent
  • Details about live investigations, operations, or deployments
  • Sensitive workplace matters or internal grievances

If you have welfare or professional concerns, please contact PFNI directly through our official channels.

Stay on Topic

Please keep comments relevant to the post or discussion.

We may hide or delete:

  • Spam
  • Repeated or disruptive posting
  • Unrelated advertising or self‑promotion

No False or Misleading Information

Posts that spread misinformation, rumours, or unverified claims about policing or criminal incidents will be removed.

We encourage fact‑based discussion only.

Use Appropriate Language

Comments containing profanity, crude expressions, or inappropriate humour may be hidden or deleted. This page is open to officers, families, and members of the public.

Respect the Moderators

Our page is moderated during business hours.

Moderators may:

  • Remove comments
  • Limit or block users who repeatedly violate guidelines
  • Close comment threads when discussions become unproductive or unsafe

These decisions are final and made to maintain a safe and respectful environment.

Do Not Report Emergencies Here

Our social media pages are not monitored 24/7.

If you need police assistance:

  • 999 in an emergency
  • 101 for non‑emergency matters

Engage Constructively

We welcome:

  • Positive discussion
  • Constructive questions
  • Support for our officers
  • Feedback shared in a respectful manner
