Letters sent to ill health retired officers by NIPB about pension reassessment
This is part of the remedy process in respect of the changes made to the Police Pension Scheme in 2015. Any former member who Ill Health retired under their legacy pension scheme from April 2015 is entitled to apply to be reassessed under the provisions introduced in the new scheme (ie higher or lower tier benefits). It is envisaged that only the higher tier could potentially result in additional benefits being payable.
As pointed out in the letter this reassessment is entirely voluntary and will not result in any reduction to payments they have already received. It is a matter for the individual whether they wish to be reassessed or not. PFNI are content that there will be no financial detriment to anyone who decides to be reassessed.
